Importance of Walking (Sent to me by father in law who is an every day exerciser)

Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in anursing home at $5000 per month.

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60.Now she's 97 years old and we don't know where the heck she is.

The only reason I would take up exercising is so that I could hear heavybreathing again.

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks.Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.

I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what I'mdoing.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day is that you die healthier.

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

You could run this over to your friends but why not just e-mail it to them!

Events at the Guttery house:Bill has been working, churching and helping around the house alot and sleeping, exercising and relaxing a little. Dessas 95th b-day party. She is the oldest member of our ward and Bill and Tessa are her biggest fans. Have I mentioned how much I love Tuesdays? Well I do! Yesterday we had a great institute all about our Prophet and his teachings and accomplishments and the things we'll remember. Then off to the temple where Karen broke a whole jar of hand sanitizer, very exciting. Lunch was great and got a great "love and logic" lesson from Brenda and Karen to help with my disobedient Tessa issues. Another shout out for Amity and Nicole for helping with her so I can have my Tuesdays! Haven't got to see enough of Dani and Brennon, but we will this weekend! Breea is busy with the play "Grease". She is the part of the "girt teen angle". McKenna has been experimenting with the new hairdo and loves playing with the puppy. We were all at the gym last week and I was watching her on the stair stepper between Brennon and Bill. She was going twice as fast and all I could see was ponytails bobbing up and down, because she is so short, she doesn't reach the panel of the machine. Shayna has been excited about her singing dancing class she is taking with McKenna Sargent. Kayla is their teacher and she comes home and practices "love potion #9" and "hard knock life". Speaking of Kayla. Kaylas best friend, Justin, leaves on his mission Thursday, so I get alot of: "Mom can we go to bing-so for the last time", "Can I got to dinner with his family. Its their last family dinner", "We are all going to the temple to watch the - movie before Justin leaves", "I'll be about 30 minutes later, Justin's stopping by LIGHT for the last time" Last night he was set apart. She got home at midnight - if your arms length, that must have been alot of talking, and was it worth it to be grounded from the weekend activities??? When is the last time, really???

Gutterys will definitely miss Justin though.

Happy Birthday Michelle!!! This is the only picture I had time to find in my crazy, unorganized picture folders. Michelles the cute blonde in the middle. Little bit about Michelle. She is so easy to talk to and to confide in. I thought she was shy for a couple of years, but now realize she just isnt a "gotta have the attention" gal. Everyone that knows Michelle feels they are a friend, thus she is very friend heavy. She is always doing something for someone, like throwing showers, making meals, babysitting and "how ya doing" calls. I love how she's always up for fun, even in the form of a good prank. She's probably half my age, but she's one of my examples. Love ya Michelle!

I love our Prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley

You were generals in the War in Heaven and one day when you are in the spirit world, you will be enthralled by those you are associated with. You will ask someone in which time period they lived and you might hear,"I was with Moses when he parted the Red Sea," or "I helped built the pyramids'" or "I fought with Captain Moroni." And as you are standing there in amazement, someone will turn to you and ask you which of theprophets' time did you live in? And when you say "Gordon B. Hinkley" a hush will fall over every hall and corridor in Heaven, and all in attendance will bow at your presence. You were held back six thousand years because you were the most talented, most obedient, mostcourageous, and most righteous. - (recently found out this is an urban legand, not written by a general authority, but I think that the hush and feeling of love and honor would have happened for our Prophet. I get that feeling of respect and reverence whenever I see him and hear him speak.)

The Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints passed away about an hour ago. The news said "due to age" which is the only way this Prophet would go. He is so spunky and full of life. He will be remembered in my mind for being a fun, energetic man that was always on the go to further the work of the Lord. He was anxiously engaged in building temples and visiting all the members around the world. I remember when the "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" came out and the feelings of importance that declaration was in the times we live in. Every time he spoke I felt a tenderness of heart towards ALL people, not just member of the church. His main mission, in my opinion was LOVE. He would ALWAYS talk about being a little kinder, getting rid of anger, treating each other better and living a more Christlike life. I feel blessed to have lived in this time on the earth when the Prophet was Gordon B. Hinckley. I know he is a true Prophet, sent by a loving Heavenly Father to help guide us and teach us and I will miss him greatly. I feel like I know him and he knows me. He is sweet and gentle.

President Hinckley had the sweetest relationship with his wife and I am so happy for him tonight as he is greeted by his sweetheart that he has missed so much. This is a exert from a talk in the last conference:

"I think of my own marriage. My eternal companion passed away three and a half years ago. But we lived together for 67 years. I have no recollection of ever having a quarrel with her. She traveled with me and spoke on every continent, pleading for the exercise of restraint, kindness, and love.

The Prophet taught so much about kindness and getting rid of anger. I love these quotes:

"So many of us make a great fuss of matters of small consequence. We are so easily offended. Happy is the man who can brush aside the offending remarks of another and go on his way."

"I plead with you to control your tempers, to put a smile upon your faces, which will erase anger; speak out with words of love and peace, appreciation, and respect. If you will do this, your lives will be without regret. Your marriages and family relationships will be preserved. You will be much happier. You will do greater good. You will feel a sense of peace that will be wonderful.
May the Lord bless you and inspire you to walk without anger, without bitterness of any kind, but to reach out to others with expressions of friendship, appreciation, and love. This is my humble prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

When we found out about his passing I asked my girls what they wanted to remember about their feelings about President Hinckley.

Shayna said: He was kind to everyone and he was a good man.

McKenna said: He is always funny and kind. Its not like Heavenly Father loved him more than anyone else, and that is how he is too. He loves us all the same, he reminds me of Heavenly Father.

Breea said: He just talked so sweet like a grandpa and easy, sweet nature about him. He's really loving towards his counselors. Im just happy he's back with his sweetheart.

Kayla said: I liked how much he loved his wife and she was his best friend. He was never concerned about his health and he teased about how he didn't know why he was carrying a cane. He took pride in the growth of the church, always being positive about how quickly the church was growing.

Bill said: I Love President Hinckley. I was always so impressed with how is was able to stay so positive about everything and everybody. He was fearless, He could talk about anything to anybody. He was so bold but so loving. I know the Savior had a lot of those same attributes. One of the best books I ever read was his autobiography. His life is such a great example to us all.

Me: Bill, I want to paint the music room before next month.
Bill: I'll do it first thing Saturday morning.
Me: Honey, I havent even picked out a color.
Bill: Pick it out, I'll have it taped and ready to paint and do it Saturday.
Me: Im not really gonna be home to much Saturday, lets do it another day.
Bill: I'll have it done when you get back.

This is so Bill. He see's a need (or a want) and he jumps right to it.

Every day I feel gratitude for Bill and all he does for me. He learned it from his parents. Ordene is so amazing - family joke is that she makes the bed before we get out of it. I get a little frustrated sometimes because he isnt home much anymore. I decided I was TOO spoiled (before extra work hours, bigger yard and bishoping). The days of waking up at 8:00 am on a Saturday morning to hear the vacuum cleaner and seeing the house spotless are over. It was a treat to get a break from it for the day but now I need to remember he WOULD do the things I need and want him to do, he just has no time left. He is an amazing husband and I know he would do anything for me. There could never be a better dad for my girls than he has been and is. Even with the dirty, bruised house and piles of laundry, I still feel like the most blessed wife around. Love you more than anything Bill.

I find it curious as we are winding down on the Primary Elections how people are deciding their candidate by popularity of the Pop Culture, Hollywood and talk show hosts. My dad raised girls to care about every issue, every politician and the Constitution of the United States. Thanks Dad, for booing the bad politicians at parades that stand for immoral issues and for writing all those articles in all those papers. Thanks for talking back to the TV while watching all your political shows. Thanks for serving in positions you didn't have time for. Thanks for the laughter as you spoke at community events about political issues. Thanks for teaching me to pray for ALL our leaders (even the ones that made me cringe) and for teaching me to think on my own to find out what stand I should take to preserve the Constitution.
"My fren, Jen" sent this link and I took it, not thinking about the candidate, but the issue. It was right on, with who I feel could represent my view.

Saturday we were able to celebrate Paula and Caties birthdays. Although Breea and Bethany couldn't join us, we still managed to enjoy ourselves. Paula is such a great sister to me. She works, but still takes time to call me and get with me when she can. Paula is very witty and always easy to be around. She's had her share of challenges and heartaches and still laughs through everything, what an example she is to me. We've had many heart to hearts and she knows most of my secrets. Paula was the sister growing up that I always set as my example and she still managed to be my friend, even though I tried to hang around her ALL the time. We are the "fruit ladies" together and have husbands that are cousins. So glad she only lives 3 miles away!

I love you Paula, and am daily grateful to be your sister.

Me, Kayla, Danica, Randa, Paula and Catie

This was all that was left.

Sweet Catie turned 13 and her and Paula were color-coordinated for their Birthday picture - good job. Catie and Breea are close to the same age and we love it when they can get together. She got her appendix out this last year and it was sad to see her in such pain. Breea and I got to help her come up with a slogan and posters to run for Student Body President, which she WON! Catie reminds me alot of Danica, always taking care of everyone, happy and easy going. Love you Catie

Tuesdays are my second favorite day.

First: I dont have to get up at 6 to exercise because I wouldn't have time to get ready to go on time. (not that I dont enjoy exercising every day with a great friend who solves the world problems with me)

second: Tessa goes to preschool

third: One of my favorite friends spends every Tuesday listening to me and sharing with me her wealth of information. Sometimes we even get to have Brenda and Christy join us to make it that much better!

fourth: We get to go to Institute in Gilbert and listen to one of my favorite people share the gospel.

fifth: We then go enjoy the Temple and learn and serve a little.
(Picture taken by and sold by my ever so talented sister - Kristal)

sixth: I always get alot of errands done that I wouldn't normally without Karen and her shopping expertise.

seventh: Lunch is always a happy thing at Cafe Rio, Costa Vida, Oregano's, Crackers or sometimes we even try something new.

eighth: A great friend who trades babysitting with me so that I can do all this w/o Tess.

Im pretty blessed to have two favorite days. Sunday, because its the Lords day to be able to learn and feel the spirit more fully and its also a day to spend with my family and no outside influences. Tuesdays, because I have finally decided to make it a special day. *My daughters, find another day of the week, besides Sunday to make special. No one can stop you once you decide to do it and you might even enjoy the rest of the week more because of it.

Kayla has been recording the past week for a film that will play at the Temple Visitors Center. I think its a tribute to the Easter Pageant??? She loves recording and learning from professionals. Im so proud of her and how she uses her talents. Her motivation inspires me.

"The Journey of the Cell Phone"

Looked for Kaylas cell phone all day. Assume McKenna took it to school on accident. McKenna returns from school. No phone. Asked all the girls if they had seen it. Looked in Tessa and Shaynas room. Found phone cover on Shaynas bed. Asked Shayna if she knew where the phone was. She donated it at school in the used phone box. A friend saw her donating it and asked if they could trade phones. The phone went home with the friend. Called the friends mom. Friend wasnt home, so the mom searched. Questioned Shayna to her motive. "Lots of people need our phones" Friends mom calls and says it was there. Kayla feels relief. Shayna feels embarrassed. Kayla retrieves phone from Shaynas friend. Texting resumes. The world is right again.

Some might say Shayna was naive, others might say brave, others trusting. But the cold hard fact is, she wanted her hair like Tessas and she didnt want to drive and wait and I was great with saving 15 to 20 bucks. Thanks for letting me experiment with your hair Shayna.

It'll grow back:-)

The morning started with many frantic phone calls to my cell and home phone "Mom, I dont know what happened but there is a boot on my car, what do I do?" When I finally got the call I told her SHE parked illegally and SHE would need to take care of it. She was still freaked out and it took her a couple more hours to go to the office and explain that she was running late and the "office parking" was closest to her class. The office staff said that rarely do kids come in admit to the truth of why they parked there, that, and the fact that Kayla has got to know the security guards well, because of lack of good people to hang out with at lunch time - they unbooted the car. (she still cant figure out why they would put a boot on her car???) Lesson not learned.

The ever-dreaded haircut

Tessa looks happy and sweet but McKennas hair cutting hatred spilled over to her and the whole event was devastating for both.

McKenna grows massive rats under her hair and will only do her hair in pony tails every day, so this cut was long over due. She was doing it under protest.

I had to give Tessa the pep talk the whole time just to keep her head still.

There was also the little problem of the stylist not being as gentle as she could have been with Kenners.
She had a Jersey accent and was giving her advice that McKenna imitates beautifully. "Now dawlin, ya gotta brush it 50 times ever night" - "Oh dawlin, we have to go showt, its awl dead"

These are the "after" pictures.

Then we were off to Dip-n-dots for the bribe treat! Now McKenna says "I cant stop touching my hair, Im obsessed"
Mission accomplished
